About Me

me at GC
My name is Rocio Siu Ng and I am a phD student pursuing my degree in Ecology and Evolution.  I am finishing up in the next year and plan to use my blog to document this experience as well as reflect on my past experiences as a graduate student.

My work focuses on the evolution of pigmentation traits in natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster in the Eastern United States.  I wish to determine how specific pigmentation genes may be contributing to natural variation in these traits and adaptation. This work has potential to help us understand how pigmentation generally evolves in insect species and provide some insight into how traits evolve and contribute to the ability for animals to adapt to their environments.

When I am not doing science I also do illustration, play guitar, scuba dive, go on bike rides, cook, travel, play rugby, program and DIY projects.

Get in touch with me.  I would love to hear from you!
